2026 Screening Overview And Schedule
Introduction
Welcome to this new format I am trying out for 2026, it will run alongside my usual “Upgrades” and “Bowls” articles.
My intention was to get this up and running at the end of last year but I ran into a few issues so had to delay things slightly.
But, here we are, ready to go, albeit a little late. I have left the original schedule below “as is” and my intention is to catch up with all of the January articles this month and then get back on, and stick to, the original schedule, from the 7th February onwards.
Before I start, a little background for those who are slightly interested. As some of you know, I have been investing for over 30 years now, always part-time, as it never has and never will take up all of my time. One of the reasons for investing, for me, was to have more free time - And I have been using some of that free time for a couple of years now to construct and post my monthly “Upgrades” and “Bowls” articles on this Substack.
More recently, around April last year, I also started helping Paul Scott out on his Substack, the Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott Substack. It’s been a great journey so far, the content and coverage is improving all the time, and a great community has also built up. I think it’s fair to say, young and old, experienced and not so, we are all sharing and learning with each other.
Onto the screening…
I have always been a fan of screening for stock ideas. I’ve never had a single “tight” screen to laser in and try and catch a potential gem, that is very rare and just doesn’t work for me. There are some great stocks out there which will just not be picked up with one laser focused screen, perhaps because they don’t have that growth you want, that yield you seek, or that net cash position you insist on, etc.
I prefer multiple not so strict screens and to perhaps see a stock appearing on two, three, or maybe more of them, over time or at the same time.
When I joined Paul on his Substack last year I was kindly given access to Sharescope (link to the Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott Substack deal) so that we were all working off the same platform. Currently all four of us on the team use Sharescope each and every day, and I have to say, I do not think we could produce such detailed pre-market open content without it. We pretty much cover all of the key UK morning RNS announcements each and every working day, trying to get a quick view out on each item, all before the market opens. The primary focus is to try and identify, pre-open, potential risers and fallers, by spotting profit warnings or expectation beats. Following the morning effort, we then give a snapshot view on each stock and then later in the day, most days, a more detailed view on a number of the most interesting stocks.
One of the other major benefits of moving onto Sharescope for me has been the screening (filter) functionality. After a short learning curve (and a couple of sessions with Sharescope support, as many as you need for free!) I found it to be so flexible as it allows for screening on both technical and fundamental data. Within a couple of months of having access I had moved almost all my existing screens, from various other platforms, onto one, Sharescope.
Towards the end of last year I decided to formalise many of my screens and that’s how we got here today. Most of my screens I run once a month, some once a week, but to make sure I don’t end up spending all my time producing content for Substack I decided to even this out a little, thus the schedule below is a little looser than that. Thankfully though, should you wish, you can run these screens yourself as often as you wish, as Sharescope have kindly included them in their Filter Library (the first 4 on the schedule at present, the others will be up there soon). This also means you don’t have to follow my schedule or my rules. You can copy the filters, change the filters, do whatever you want with them - And run them whenever you want, with your rules!
So, let’s move onto the screens I decided to focus on and how often I intend to report on them…
The Screens
There are 3 frequency categories:
(M) MONTHLY - 1 screen only, 12x a year
(Q) QUARTERLY - 6 screens, 4x a year each
(A) ANNUALLY - 2 screens, 1x a year each
That’s a total of 38 screens a year which I will report on.
I will go into more detail on each screen as it is posted throughout the year ahead.
The Schedule
The (originally intended) schedule for 2026…
As I mentioned above, my intention is to catch up with all of the January articles this month and then get back on, and stick to, the original schedule, from the 7th February onwards.
I look forward to getting those first few articles published as soon as possible, and then getting fully caught up by the end of the month!
All comments and suggestions, as always, most welcome.
Jon

Thanks Jon, that's really helpful. I'm just trying to work properly with screens but find it quite hard. This will save me a lot of time. With this work, Paul's work, your bowls and stock upgrades, not to mention your own research and investing, that's a very full 'part-time'!
Looking forward to reading more. Thank you for sharing.
